The San Francisco Chinatown Merchants Association would like to thank Elaine Mae Woo, Jeff Adachi, Four Seas Restaurant and all our wonderful sponsors for making The First Annual San Francisco Chinatown Autumn Moon Film Festival a reality. The Autumn Moon Film Festival is a welcome addition to this year’s 19th Annual San Francisco Chinatown Moon Festival which will be held on September 19th and 20th, 2009.

There will be two movie screenings each day. On Saturday, September 19th, Jeff Adachi will present "The Slanted Screen," which explores portrayals of Asian men in American media, chronicling the experiences of actors who have had to struggle against ethnic stereotyping and limited roles.

Sunday, September 20th will feature Jeff Adachi's new film "You Don't Know Jack: The Jack Soo Story," which reveals the life of an extraordinary man born Goro Suzuki, who broke free from the World War II barbed wire internment camps to become a groundbreaking actor and the first Asian Pacific American signed to Motown Records.

Both days will highlight Elaine Mae Woo's documentary "Anna May Wong ~ Frosted Yellow Willows: Her Life, Times, and Legend," which unveils the triumphs and tribulations of Chinese-American Hollywood legend, Anna May Wong. She lit up the silver screen from the 1920s to the 1940s and became the first Asian-American to host her own television show in the 1950s. She was the first Asian-American to achieve national and international acclaim. Her career included movies with Hollywood greats such as Douglas Fairbanks and Marlene Dietrich.

Each day will include a luncheon buffet during the intermission, questions & answers sessions for all of you to ask the filmmakers any of your burning questions, and a complimentary raffle for some neat door prizes. It’s just our way of showing our gratitude for your continued interest and involvement all these years in making San Francisco Chinatown a more vibrant experience for all.

Thanks again to all of you who suggested and requested the San Francisco Chinatown Autumn Moon Film Festival. Your ideas, input and interest are most appreciated. We are sure it will be entertaining, educational and just plain fun. We look forward to seeing you at the Autumn Moon Film Festival and welcome you to stick around for the rest of the Chinatown Moon Festival celebrations. So, let’s get ready for the festivities. Bring your curiosity, appetite, positive energy and your friends and family, of course!
